Summer Camp
Camp D-Bar-A
(July 14-20, 2002)
(continued)
Whether it was working on merit badge requirements, playing a friendly game of chess, or just hanging out with the guys, the troop had a lot of fun. Just ask the neighborhood frog!

Those who have been to Philmont or who have watched old-time westerns might recognize the critter in these two pictures. As it happened Troop 395 was one of the first units in quite some time to exercise the 10th point of the Scout Law by their bravery and willingness to host one of these "ornery critters" right at the campsite for a while. Talk about a rare opportunity -- Si!

For those who went to camp and required their morning caffeine fixes, trouble was a-brewing. Yup, the coffee pot was packed; yup, the lid was packed; yup, the coffee was packed; but where was the top? Never fear, Troop 395 is here! With a little bit of imagination and improvisation (our Scoutmaster is real good at that), the hole in the lid was plugged, with a makeshift handle to boot. The gods of the caffeine world then smiled benevolently on the troop for the remainder of the week, and all was well.

We have our serious moments as well. Earlier in the year, some of our Scouts got together and formed an internal troop drum and bugle corps. Their first performace at our spring Court of Honor was such a success that they decided to take their show on the road and, in so doing, became quite the celebrities at camp. They played at camp flag lowering and were instrumental (no pun intended) in helping the troop earn the coveted Camp D-Bar-A "Spirit Award" at week's end. Congratulations on a job well done!
